Demanding the facility of a stoppage for express trains at Devanur, and to extend the service of Mysuru-Arasikere train to Chikkamagaluru, residents from 11 villages staged a protest on Saturday.

The residents of Nerlige, Nidaghatta, Jodihochihalli, Banooru, Jiganehalli, Nagaralu, Devanooru, Chikkadevanooru, Mathighatta, Keresanthe, Moodalasomanahalli staged a protest in front of Devanur Railway Station.

The protesters urged the authorities to provide stoppage for Shivamogga-Bengaluru, Mysuru-Talaguppa intercity express trains at Devanur Railway Station for two minutes.

All the trains between Mysuru and Arasikere should be extended to Chikkamagaluru, they demanded.

District Congress Committee Vice President Nataraj said, “Devanur is known for its place of worship and also as the birth place of Mahakavi Lakshmisha. The stoppage for express trains at Devanur will benefit students, patients and labourers.”

Village leader S Shankarappa said that already a memorandum had been submitted to MP and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The protesters had planned to stop Hubballi-Mysuru Vishwamanava Express at Devanur Railway Station. However, the police prevented them from stopping the train.
