He was briefing his problems to the MP at the latter’s office in the DC office premises on Tuesday. J V Bhat claims that the Mangalore City Corporation has built a public toilet very next to the kitchen of his house in Mangalore, which is a matter of great discomfort to him.

“Though Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde had directed the MCC to shift the public toilet, no action has been taken so far,” Bhat added.

While Bhat was one of the many who spoke of their personal problems, there were people like Prakash Kini, an auto rickshaw driver who spoke to the MP about the need to provide better working conditions for Mescom contract workers. “The contract workers are made to climb the pole without any protection and in recent past several number of such contract workers as well as gang men have died after being electrocuted. When the issue is raised with the Mescom officials and higher ups, they talk very rudely,” said Kini to the MP.

MP said that he has been noticing the issue carefully and will try to find some solution for the same.

Speaking to the reporters, later Nalin Kumar Kateel said that it was regretful that the problems of the people still persist and the poor are still denied justice, even after 62 years of independence.

He said that major number of cases which were received by him were related to roads and ration card along with cases related to Ashraya Yojana, Sandhya suraksha etc.

He said that though he has received several cases on matters outside his purview, he will forward the same to the officials concerned.

He declared that pressurising the central government to include day train between Mangalore and Bangalore and a Mangalore-Mumbai train will be his top priority.
