Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, District Polio Officer Dr Suavaris informed the programme is for the year 2009-10. All the children below 5 years of age will be administered the polio drops. In December, polio cases were reported in three countries.
Nigeria, Pakistan and India and up to some extent in Afghanistan. Of the 1,517 cases reported around the globe, 703 were reported in India. In India, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar contribute much to the toll rate. About 571 case have been reported in UP, 114 in Bihar.
About 10 mobile teams have been set up for the purpose. 16 temporary booths will be introduced at bus stops and railway station. Pulse Polio programme will be specifically concentrated in rural areas on January 10 and 11 and February 8 and 9.
