Puttur boy wins 5 medals in SGFI swimming competition

Neil Mascarenhas of the Puttur Aquatic Club won five medals at the state-level SGFI swimming competition held recently at Bengaluru.

With this, he has qualified for the national-level swimming competition.

The competition was conducted by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and district administration of Mysuru.

Neil won 2 gold medals in the 50 and 100 metre breaststroke events. He won 2 silver medals in 200 metre individual medley and 4x100 metre medley relay and a bronze medal in 4x100 metre freestyle relay.

At the Dasara Games CM Cup 2018 held at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Mysuru, Neil won 2 bronze medals in 100 and 200 metres breaststroke.

Neil is a Class 10 student from St Philomena High School, Puttur. He is being trained by Partha Varanashi, Niroop G R, and Rohith at Dr Shivarama Karantha Balawana swimming pool, Puttur, and St Aloysius swimming pool, Mangaluru.

Neil is the son of Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, Assistant Professor of History at St Philomena College, and Pramela Mascarenhas, Principal of Government PU college for Girls, Puttur.
