A 21-year-old woman died due to infection after being treated by a quack at Kalihundi village in the taluk on Tuesday. Ankusha, daughter of Raju, is the deceased.
Ankusha, who was suffering from fever, had gone for a check-up at a clinic in the town on November 5. Dr Raju, said to be a quack, examined her and gave an injection to her thigh. After a couple of days, the thigh turned blue and Ankusha was not even able to walk.
Ankusha was treated at the HD Kote taluk hospital and at K R Hospital in Mysuru, but her condition worsened. She was then admitted to Apollo Hospital in Mysuru, where she breathed her last. It is said the injection administered by Dr Raju resulted in gangrene and subsequently, death.
Speaking to DH, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr B Basavaraju said the exact reason for the death could be ascertained after going through the report by Apollo Hospitals.
It is learnt that Dr Raju was not a registered medical practitioner. He has absconded after removing the board of the clinic. No complaint has been lodged so far.
"I have directed the taluk health officers to visit all clinics in their jurisdiction to confirm whether the doctors there are genuine", the DHO said.
