The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) has succeeded in sustaining competition for the last 104 years by maintaining quality in its products, said Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Speaking at the exhibition-cum-sale of Mysore silk sarees organised by the KSIC at Udupi on Tuesday, he said that it was Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar who started the KSIC. “The efforts of the officials and president has helped KSIC fetch profit all these years,” he added.
Veronica Cornelio, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL) chairperson, said, “The KSIC has been changing as per the taste of the people and has continued to attract customers.”
KSIC Chairperson D Basavaraj said that the KSIC has carried out business transaction worth Rs 146.42 crore and has fetched profit of Rs 27 crore last year.
“A sum of Rs seven crore was handed over to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The chief minister has earmarked Rs 15 crore to the KSIC in the budget,” he stated.
He said that the KSIC products have obtained GI recognition. “The silk is directly purchased from the farmers. The notion that Mysore silk sarees are worn by senior citizens has been cleared, as the KSIC products have been attracting members of the younger generations as well.”
He said that stain-free sarees have also been released to the market. Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake released a saree worth Rs 1.90 lakh.
The exhibition will be open till April 7 between 10 am and 8 pm.
