Hyderabad based company Soham Engineering has completed the construction dismissing fears among people that completion would be delayed further.

However, painting and minor works which are still pending will be completed within three-four days. While the over bridge has been opened for two-wheelers, heavy vehicles are yet to be allowed. Construction was taken up at a cost of  ` 12 crore in 2007. However there was no sign of the work being completed even after three-and-half years.

The conversion of Chamarajanagar-Mysore metre gauge work started at the same time as the construction of the one-and-half kilometre railway overbridge. However, the construction of the latter was delayed due to technical reasons.

Adding to the residents problems was the pathetic condition of the service road due to which many people suffered severe injuries. During this time 80 per cent of the work had been completed, however as the engineering company had undertaken an order to construct a bridge in Bangalore the work on the over bridge was stopped for some time.

Earlier, Cesc had delayed transferring the electricity poles near the over bridge. Due to this construction was held up. Finally, the work was completed due to the sustained pressure from the MP. The Chamarajanagar-Mysore railway line is historically famous as it was constructed during the reign of the British.

Even though modernisation of the Chamarajanagar Railway Station and construction of the over bridge started at the same time, the work on the former was completed and inaugurated.  Speaking to Deccan Herald, MP R Dhruvanarayan said: “I have spoken to railway department officials. The over bridge will be open to public within 10 days.”
