Heavy rains coupled with gusty wind lashed the taluk on Tuesday evening and uprooted hundreds of arecanut, coconut, banana, jackfruit and mango trees between Mudradi and Kadthala villages.

Many trees were also reported to have been uprooted inside the forest in Padukudooru, Mavinakatte, Chatkalpade and Muniyalu. As many as 26 houses were damaged at Kadthala. A cow shed was also damaged.

An anganwadi kendra at Chatkalpade was damaged when a tree crashed on it. Paddy straw stored in a cowshed belonging to one Krishna Shettigar was gutted in fire mishap triggered by a suspected short circuit caused by lightning.

Over 200 electricity poles have been damaged in the area. The Mescom has set up four teams to carry out repair works and restore electricity in the region.
