Heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed parts of North Karnataka on Tuesday.Haveri got respite from sweltering heat as the district received heavy rains in the evening. Though dark clouds were hovering for the past three days, it had not rained.

Reena Kalghatagi (43), and her son Joseph (22) were struck dead by lightning near Sangatikoppa in Kalaghatagi taluk of Dharwad district. Police said the two had come on a bike from Kurvathhi to make purchases. Yerebudihal in Kundagol taluk of Dharwad district was converted into an island as a pond overflowed with rain water. Gudageri of Kundagol taluk in Dharwad district too received rain. Shivalingappa Ningappa Angadi (65) was killed while two others were injured after lightning struck a house in Kodambi village of Mundagod taluk, Uttara Kannada district.

Rain pounded Belur in Hassan district for more than an hour in the noon. The tin-sheet roof of a shop was blow away by strong winds. Javagal town too received heavy showers.
