Three of a family were buried alive as a house collapsed in Hulikunte village of Challakere taluk on Tuesday night. Kodigowda (60), his wife Manjulamma (55) and daughter Mamata (25) are the deceased.
Two more deaths were reported from Chikkaballapur and Koppal districts.
Water gushed into Mathadakurubarahatty on the outskirts of Chitradurga as a wall constructed to a nearby tank gave away. Traffic on National Highway-4 was affected for over an hour as irate villagers staged a protest.
