Several houses in many parts of the State either collapsed or were partially damaged. However, no loss of life has been reported.
In Shimoga four houses were partially damaged and the movement of vehicles on New Bridge Road were banned in Bhadravati on Friday, due to the increase in outflow of water from Bhadra reservoir in the last two days.
Bhadra river was in full spate as 41,000 cusec of water was released from Bhadra reservoir on Thursday night. However, the outflow came down to 31,000 on Friday evening. There was heavy traffic on the old bridge as the new bridge was partially submerged.
In Haveri, 26 houses have collapsed due to heavy rain during the last two days. Incessant rain for the last five days in Dharwad, Hubli, and Kalghatgi taluks in Dharwad district pose a threat to the kharif crops. Paddy crop is rotting in some places. The green gram, which is grown as short-term crop in Dharwad taluk, is also facing severe threat.
The rains have also thrown life out of gear in Dharwad city. Rainwater entered the low-lying areas namely Laxmisingankeri and Sadhankeri. On Wednesday, a house located in Myadar Oni in Dharwad partially collapsed.
In Karwar, eight houses were partially damaged, and one person was injured due to wall collapse following incessant rain in the past four days in Uttara Kannada district. Two houses each were damaged in Bhatkal and Honnavar, one in Haliyal and three in Mundgod. The rain subsided on Friday afternoon.
Almatti overflowing
Due to heavy rain continuing in the Krishna catchment area in Maharashtra, the river is in spate in Karnataka.
The inflow in the Almatti reservoir has been recorded at 1.73 lakh cusec, while 1.60 lakh cusec was being released from the reservoir through 18 gates of the Almatti dam. Against the maximum height of the dam at 519.6 metres, the water-level in the reservoir is being maintained at 519.07 metres.
However, the officials have maintained that there is no flood threat at present. Due to heavy rain in the Western Ghats the reservoirs in the region are likely to reach their full capacity. With an inflow of 30,799 cusec of water in the Kadra reservoir, the water level in the dam reached 33.61 metres on Friday against a full reservoir level (FRL) of 34.50 metres.
Inflow of water at Kodasalli reservoir was recorded at 23,916 cusec. The water in the dam has reached 73 metres against the FRL 75.50 metres. In Bommanahalli pick up dam, the inflow of water was 12,944 cusec. The level of water was 437.70 metres against a FRL of 438.38 metres. The inflow of water in Supa dam is 38,096 with the water reaching a level of 554 metres against a FRL of 564 metres.
In Tattihalli dam with a inflow of 8677 cusecs water level was 4.66 metres against the FRL of 468 metres. In Gerusoppa dam, the inflow was 8,784 cusec. The water level was 55 metres against the FRL of 52.69 metres.
The Kabini reservoir in H D Kote taluk, Mysore district, reached its full level for the second time this year and 38,000 cusecs of water was released. A few villages have been affected due to submersion of bridges leading to these villages.
Copious rains in the Cauvery catchment area has led to heavy inflow of water into the K R Sagar dam. On Friday a record 30,303 cusec of water was released against an inflow of 25,607 cusec.
On Friday the level of water was 124.32 metres against full reservoir level of 124.80 metres. Boating has been banned in Ranganathittu bird sanctuary due to excess outflow of water. Water has been released from Yagachi reservoir. The water level was 964.55 metres, against FRL of 964.6 metres.
Trains diverted
Due to a landslide on the Konkan Railway Corporation lines between Ratnagiri and Niwsar on Thursday, train no 12618 (Hazarat Nizamuddin–Ernakulam Junction), and the train no 16345 (Lokmanyatilak Terminus-Trivandrum Central) have been diverted.
Instead of the scheduled route Panvel-Roha-Madgaon, the train no 12618 (Hazarat Nizamuddin – Ernakulam Junction) would now run on the Panvel- Karjat, Pune, Miraj, Londa, and Madgaon route.
