Though the rain has receded in Kodagu district, strong wind is causing havoc by destroying crops and uprooting trees.

Huge trees were uprooted in Suntikoppa and Chettalli as well.

The asbestos sheets of a building near a private bus stand in Madikeri flew away in the gusty wind and fell on the road. Even the electricity wires were damaged and fell on the road. Hillocks caved in causing hindrance for the movement of vehicles at several places in the city.

No power supply

Trees and electricity poles fell on the road following the heavy rain in Suntikoppa on Monday.

Four electricity poles have been damaged on Suntikoppa-Madapura Road.

A transformer in Madapura was damaged after a huge tree fell on it. As many as 30 electricity poles and four transformers have been damaged in the area so far.

The power supply has been affected in rural areas.

A compound wall near the house belonging to Manu and Neelu at Chappadi Road in Madhuramma Layout has collapsed.

74.66 mm rainfall

In the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday, Kodagu district received an average of 74.66 mm rain.

The quantity of rainfall last year during the same period was 10.90 mm.

The district has received 2,128.45 mm rain from January this year, compared to 869.95 mm rain last year during the corresponding period.

Madikeri taluk received 116.75 mm, followed by Somwarpet—65.13 mm and Virajpet—42.10 mm.
