The ryots are preparing land to sow seeds Sowing had already begun in many villages of Kollegal, Gundlupet and Chamarajanagar taluks.

Of the total 1.40 lakh hectares of agricultural land, sowing was in progress in 50,000 hectares.

Several farmers now prefer to sow sunflower, jowar, groundnut, other pulses and oil seeds.
According to sources, the ryots are going groundnut seeds and already about 100 quintals of groundnut had been sold through authorised dealers.

Joint Director of Agriculture B M Shivaraju told Deccan Herald that the department had arrangements for the sale of seeds and fertiliser.

Nearly, 8,000 quintal of fertilisers and 400 quintals of seeds are available. Steps had been taken to distribute seeds to farmers at subsidised rate among small and marginal farmers.

Besides, measures have also been taken by the department to improve fertility of the soil in wet land areas through supplying nutrients.
