Against the backdrop of severe criticism from various quarters over the poor performance by the present dispensation at the Centre, Karnataka State Congress spokesperson Rajeev Gowda claimed that the country has progressed in every field in the last ten years of the UPA regime.

A day after BJP Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, Venkaiah Naidu accused the ruling Congress of leaving the country bankrupt, Gowda went on a defensive.

He said the GDP was 6 per cent during the NDA regime and grew to nearly 8 per cent in UPA-I and stabilised at 7 per cent in UPA-II, adding that the foreign exchange reserve also increased from USD 1,12,959 during NDA rule to USD 2,98,635 in the present rule.
