Women and Child Development Minister Umashree paid a surprise visit to the Ramachandrapura anganwadi centre on Thursday. She ordered that the centre be shifted to the BBMP building where it was located earlier.

The minister visited the centre after she was informed that the anganwadi centre was plagued by a number of problems.

An official accompanying the minister said there was stench emanating from a nearby stormwater drain at the new centre at Ramachandrapura. Also, there is an electricity transformer right at the entrance of the building and poses a threat to the children of the anganwadi.

The wires of the transformer are within hand’s reach of the children.

The minister had talks with local corporator Queen Elizabeth over shifting the anganwadi centre back to the BBMP premises. She was accompanied by Ramesh Halbhavi, deputy director of the department of Health and Family Welfare.
