Bengaluru: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge on Wednesday directed officials to develop a blueprint for establishing ‘water resource protected villages’ with the help of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and relevant state departments.

According to a statement released by the RDPR, water resource protected villages are those with clearly identified water sources — such as groundwater and potable water sources — along with preventive measures to protect them from pollution and prevent water wastage.

"Apart from this, the department will also take steps to develop web-based technology and mobile applications to maintain a clean water supply chain in the state," Kharge said.

Earlier in the day, Kharge also met a delegation of Swachvahini drivers, a group of women operating garbage mini trucks in villages. “We have intentionally appointed women drivers for Swachvahinis in the state. I will call for a meeting in a week’s time to address the problems faced by this workforce,” he said in a statement.
