Bengaluru: With the southwest monsoon advancing into some more parts of Karnataka, the MeT department has issued a red alert for six districts and an orange alert for two districts on Monday.
The monsoon is also set to enter Bengaluru in the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 204.5 mm) for coastal Karnataka (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada), and three districts of south interior Karnataka (Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga).
The rains will be accompanied by sustained winds travelling at speeds of 50-60 kmph.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (orange alert) has also been forecast for the districts of Dharwad and Belagavi.
Further, the districts of Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Gadag, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Mandya and Mysuru are expected to receive heavy rainfall, accompanied by winds travelling at speeds of 40-50 kmph.
Light to moderate rainfall has been forecast for Bidar, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Ballari, Bengaluru urban and rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Kolar, Ramanagar, Tumakuru and Vijayanagar districts, the IMD said.
According to N Puviarasan, scientist 'F' and head of the meteorological centre at IMD Bengaluru, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon passes through Belagavi and Dharwad in Karnataka. Conditions are also favourable for the further advancement of the monsoon into some parts of the state, including Bengaluru, he added.
