Davanagere: Congress MLA from Mayakonda K S Basavanthappa has alleged that some organisations and officials were demanding bribe of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for regularising the services of civic workers.
The state government recently announced that services of pourakarmikas would be regularised soon and orders would be issued on May 1.
Speaking at Ambedkar Jayanti programme here on Monday, Basavanthappa said civic workers were being harassed to pay bribes. “A Lokayukta investigation is needed to determine whether this is the act of officials or if there is any other pressure,” he said.
He also charged that lakhs of rupees have been collected as bribe from civic workers even during recruitment on daily wage basis.
