The Prison department has recommended the release of as many as 405 convicts who completed over 14 years of imprisonment at Central Prison, Hindalga in Belagavi.
According to sources, the prison authorities had prepared a list of 127 convicts recommended by District Advisory Committee headed by deputy commissioner for the release. The list was forwarded to the government on Monday. Twenty-five among these convicts have served the sentence for 18 years.
The advisory committees in other six districts where central prisons are located are also likely to make their recommendations. The committee in Dharwad is likely to recommend the release of 33 convicts.
