The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) has said it was ‘very difficult’ to relocate the stone crushing industries from the City to the outskirts, in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict.

According to K Shiva Shanmugam, president, FKCCI, the SC mandates grant of permission for stone crushing only after creating safe zones. “But these units in the City have been existing for the past 40 years. Where will they go?” Shanmugam said. He appealed to the State government to convince the Supreme Court on relaxing the norms.

According to Sudhakar Shetty, member of FKCCI and owner of a stone crushing unit, of the 3,800 stone crushers across Karnataka many have shut down after the SC directive. Currently, the State is getting crushed stones from the neighbouring states.
