Cooperation Minister S T Somashekar has written to the state government urging it to rename Mysore Airport at Mandakalli after Jayachamaraja Wadiyar - the 25th Maharaja of Mysore before monarchy was abolished in the country.

The request by Somashekar, who is also district-in-charge for Mysuru district, was based on a letter by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar to the minister. In the letter, she has also urged Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri to install a photograph of Jayachamaraja at the Legislative Assembly in Vidhana Soudha.

Somashekar on Tuesday, wrote to both Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Kageri conveying the requests.
