A two-year-old female leopard, which was found injured at Bandilakanakoppalu village near here on Tuesday, died after treatment failed.

The leopard was spotted near Aaluramma temple in the village and residents alerted the Forest Department.

Forest officials quickly rescued it and shifted it to the veterinary hospital in Halebeedu town.
But the animal failed to respond to treatment and its carcass was sent to the Veterinary College in Hassan.

Officials suspect that the leopard had fought with a boar or porcupine a few days ago as a deep wound was found on its head.

Assistant Veterinary Director Dr Umapathy and DCF Sannananjappa took efforts to treat the leopard, but in vain.
