Speaking to presspersons after National Highway displaced persons meeting on Sunday, Rashtriya Heddari Santhrasthara Horata Samithi convener and advocate Ramdas Nayak said hundreds of displaced persons residing between Kundapur and Padubidri have brought stay order from the High Court against the land acquisition. “Our elected representatives are acting irresponsibly. In this background, the displaced persons are planning to bring stay order by filing a writ in the High Court. We will fight against injustice in the High Court and the Supreme Court,” he warned.
“In fact, we have already submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Road Transport Jithin Prasad to restrict the land acquisition to 45 metres on February 6, who in turn has assured to hold talks with the State government. The land acquisition for NH development in Kerala and Goa has been restricted to 35 metres. However, it has been increased to 65 metres in Karnataka. We are not against widening the road by 45 metres.
However, in some places, the land is being acquired unnecessarily, which we are opposing,” he added.
At the same time, the NHAI has already started the work on road widening. However, land acquisition process is not complete. It has started the work wherever the government land is available, he alleged.
“Amidst all the problems, our representatives are mum over the issue. Inspite of submitting memorandum, no one listens to our woes,” he added.
