Hubballi: Hundreds of people hailing from Adhaypak Nagar and surrounding areas staged a protest in front of Ashok Nagar Police Station alleging that a man raped a five-year-old girl and murdered her in the city on Sunday.
The protesters alleged that a labourer, native of Bihar, kidnapped the girl and dragged her into a shed.
When the girl stared screaming, the nearby residents started to gathere near the shed. In a bid to escape, the accused killed the girl and fled the scene, they said.
They demanded the police to nab the accused and hand him over to the public for justice.
Soon after the girl was found dead, the police visited the spot and shifted the body to KMC-RI Hospital, for the postmortem. Family members and relatives of the deceased girl are camping at the hospital.
The police confirmed that the girl was found dead, but they didn't make any statement on the allegation of rape.
The police said they will only take action after receiving the medical report.
Former MP I G Sanadi, Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority Chairman Sakir Sanadi, corporators Santosh Chouhan and Niranjan Hiremath, former corporator Siddu Mogalishettar, and others also joined the protest and demanded justice.
