‘Restrict heavy vehicles on Madenadu road’

Bettatturu villager K S Puttaiah urged the district administration to impose a ban on the movement of timber lorries on Kolagadalu-Cherambane-Bettatturu-Madenadu road.

Addressing the media in Madikeri on Wednesday, he said that heavy vehicles transporting timber ply on the road unabated as the road connects to the National Highway.

The continuous movement of heavy vehicles has damaged the road, he said.

The trees in a coffee plantation which is seven kilometres away from Cherambane are felled and are transported on Cherambane-Madenadu Road. Even though a complaint has been submitted to the Zilla Panchayat and the district administration, there has been no response. The road has not been repaired from the past many years, added Puttaiah.

Meanwhile, Kaveri Sene President Ravi Changappa has warned of staging a protest on May 31 in Koladalu, urging a ban on heavy vehicles in the stretch and for the makeover of the road. He said that people from five villages will take part in the protest.
