The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases on Wednesday launched a website to help people get appointments online.

The website also offers an online lung health programme, which enables patients to upload basic details in the online form that will be submitted to doctor concerned.

Also on the occasion, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the super-speciality hospital building of SDS Tuberculosis Research Centre and the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases in the City. Foundation stone for the building was laid way back in 1998.

The building was initially planned when Veerappa Moily was the chief minister and a grant of Rs five crore was allocated for the project. “As this was delayed due to various reasons, the total expense now sums up to Rs 14.85 crore,” he said.

Siddaramaiah also said that it is impossible to stop addictions such as smoking.

“If we ban tobacco, other illegal activities will start,” he said, adding that an attempt to ban it in Gadag, Sandur and Belthangadi was unsuccessful.
