Bengaluru: In a first, health university of Karnataka - Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) - will be setting up a placement cell to cater students from all streams.
Considering the number of graduates coming out of the university every year from all streams including nursing, medical and other courses, the university has decided to establish a dedicated placement cell to help and assist the job seekers.
Dr Bhagavan B C, Vice Chancellor of RGUHS told DH that the placement cell will have different verticals and will act as a finishing school for students. “We will not just provide students information about the job opportunities but will train them with mock interviews too,” he said.
The VC said that plenty of jobs were available across the globe for all the courses except those of Ayurveda and dental science. “The opportunities are available in corporate and government sectors. As we produce a large number of graduates every year, we should take an initiative to avoid some external agencies misusing our students and cheating them in the name of jobs,” he said.
The placement cell will also look into the Visa and language skills for nursing and allied health sciences graduates. These graduates are high in demand in foreign countries and hence the placement cell will also teach them German, Japanese and French along with English.
“Our aim is to help all the graduates get jobs. The placement will be difficult for nursing and allied health courses graduates if they do not know the local language of the country where they will serve, he added. The placement cell at the university will also develop and provide content for students, which are currently sourced by students from various websites.
Meanwhile, the university officials claimed that several universities outside India were showing interest to collaborate with RGUHS for student exchange programmes. But the University is clear about its stand and has been insisting such universities to introduce “Earn-Learn-Return” kind of programmes, the officials said.
