Rift among authorities plunges KGF into darkness

There seems to be no ray of hope in the near future as the agencies concerned have locked horns. Earlier a Bangalore-based outsourcing agency had undertaken maintenance of streetlights in 35 wards.

The CMC completed the process of bidding fresh tender and forwarded the files to the urban development cell for approval.

But, there were criticisms against the CMC for allotting tender to the Bangalore-based company for the second term. The objections were brought to the notice of the district administration as well.

The delay in setting right the issue has caused inconvenience to the public, especially more than 75,000 persons working in the mining areas in shifts.

Besides, several residents from the KGF commute to Bangalore for jobs and return home late in the night. They have to crawl in the darkness on the potholed roads to reach home.

Women, who have to go out at night, will have to do so at their own risk. Even traders have suffered the loss as the lack of streetlight discourages customers from visiting the shops.

The PWD and the CMC have also locked horns over maintenance of streetlights on the Robertsonpet-Andersonpet Double Road. The CMC has washed its hands of the matter by writing a letter to the PWD on repair and maintenance of the streetlights. But, the PWD has not responded even to the letter, let alone resolving the issue, sources said.
