“Arrey o Samba, Kitne aadmi the re...,” these words of Gabbar Singh from the eternal superhit ‘Sholay’ still ring a bell in the ears of cinegoers of yesteryears.

The Railways, by getting scenes from the movie painted on the walls of the Ramanagara station, has sought to give the new generation a peek into the saga of the blockbuster.

Incidentally, Ramanagara was where the Ramesh Sippy-directed film - starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Badhuri and Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh - was picturised, especially in and around the Ramadevara Betta.

The walls also depict Saptarshi Betta, Kootagal Betta, Shidlakal Betta, Handigundi Betta, the local silk cocoon market and Rangarayadadoddi Kere, besides the local art and culture.

The Abhaya Anjaneya shrine at the foot of Ramadevara Betta also finds a place in the pictures. The paintings are part of a cleanliness drive at the station and has been received well by train travellers, who want the effort replicated in other stations.

The cleanliness drive is aimed at discouraging people from spitting and urinating on the station premises. It will also introduce the place to tourists, said Shivashankar, executive engineer of South Western Railway.
