Rogue elephants spotted near K R Pet

The rogue elephants, which created ruckus at the sugarcane field of Manohar Reddy in the town on Friday, were spotted in weed-covered place at Kanchenahalli near K R Pet on Saturday.

The Forest Department officials and the police had chased away the two elephants from Chikmagalur on Friday evening by bursting crackers. However, instead of entering the forest, the elephants reached Kanchenahalli creating anxiety among people.

Elephants were spotted at a sugarcane field in Tavarekere near Chikmagalur town. Later, pachyderms crossed Malalur and reached the land belonging to Basavaraju at K R Pet. Local residents informed the Forest Department officials when they saw the elephants.

A team of officials led by Deputy Conservator of Forest Venkatesh, Assistant Conservator of Forest Lingappa and Regional Forest Officers Jayakumar and Bhaskar reached the spot immediately.

Later, the elephants were chased away to the forest by bursting crackers. Pachyderms did not destroy fields in Kanchenahalli.
