The Primary Land Development Co-operative Bank (taluk) officials have given a written undertaking that Rs 3 lakh would be paid to the family of Venkatram who committed suicide after being harassed by the bank officials, said General Secretary (State) of Kisan Sabha M Gopal.
Venkatram, a resident of Kallarasahalli village in the Mulbagal taluk had committed suicide after he was allegedly harassed by the recovery agents of the Primary Land Development Co-operative Bank.
The decision to pay the relief was taken at the meeting held between the officials of Bank and leaders from Kisan Sabha and Raitha Sangha. Gopala said that bank had agreed to waive the loan taken by Venkatram and also to punish the recovery agents responsible for his death. The meeting was also attended by senior officials of bank from Kolar and President Srinath.

The commercial banks are refusing to accept the crop insurance premium from the farmers, alleged Gopal. The banks are refusing to accept the money stating that they had no orders, however collection money of from farmers is a standing order, Gopal stated. He warned to stage dharna in front of the banks if they didn’t accept the money.
