Udupi: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced a Rs 300-crore comprehensive plan to tackle sea erosion in the coastal districts. Speaking to reporters after inspecting erosion-hit areas here, he said DCs of coastal districts were asked to submit proposals worth Rs 100 crore each.

“It will be implemented in phases over 2 years,” he said. Experts from IIT-Madras estimate Rs 15 crore is required for every 100-metre sea wall.

The minister said Rs 50 crore would be allocated to Udupi under a 500-crore project to address landslides in Malnad and coastal belts.

On the ‘9/11’ land survey system concerns, he promised to talk to the RDPR department.
