Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the Anubhava Mantapa, being made by the Karnataka State government at a cost of over Rs 600 crore, at Basavakalyan of Bidar district, will be completed next year.
He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Basava Jayanti - 2025: Our Journey Towards Anubhava Mantapa’ (Namma Nade Anubhava Mantapada Kade) programme, on Hunsur Road, in Mysuru, on Saturday.
After the event, the CM cancelled all other engagements in Mysuru, as part of his two-day tour that began on Friday. He left for Bengaluru, as he received information that his close confidant Bhyrati Suresh’s mother died.
“Basavanna, who gave the world the great humanitarian message, was not just a revolutionary but also a great economist and preached that all professions are sacred. Basavanna advocated the importance of the work culture of Kayaka (work as worship) and Dasoha (selfless service/community feeding) to the world,” the CM explained.
Siddaramaiah emphasised that the social revolution against the caste system, led by Basavanna and other Sharanas, was unique. “Such a revolution has not occurred anywhere else in the world. The Sharanas fought for the establishment of an egalitarian and secular society and lived by their words,” he said.
“A caste and class-less humanitarian society was the aspiration of the Sharanas. The spiritual experiences of Basavanna and other Sharanas became Vachanas. Vachana means words. In Kannada literature, Vachana and Dasa literature are significant milestones. Vachana literature reached those denied access to literacy through spoken language,” Siddaramaiah said.
“Both my father and mother were deprived of education. Thanks to my teacher Rajappa, I was directly admitted to the fifth grade, received education and thus became Chief Minister twice,” he said.
On the occasion, he assured that more grants would be provided for the construction of Basava Bhavans, as requested by the Federation of Basava Balagas.
