With only five units functioning, power generation has come down to 700 MW on Thursday.

With supply of coal from Talcher in Odisha and West Coal Mine having been stopped to these five units, even they would stop power generation, sources said.

Two rakes (3,500 metric tonnes a rake) of coal were used to be supplied once in two days. For the past two days, supply of even the coal adulterated with a lot of waste, has stopped, the sources added.

Units 3 and 8 are under repair. Unit 1 on Monday and unit 4 on Tuesday were shut down due to technical snags.  On Wednesday, only units 5, 6 and 7 were functioning and by night, units 1 and 2 also resumed power generation. But, the power station has coal stock of less than one lakh metric tonnes and the supply from Talcher and West Coal Mine is likely to stop in two days, sources said.

If all the five units function to their maximum capacity, they could generate 1,050 MW power.  But the technical snag and poor quality of coal have hampered them, said the sources.
