Progressive farmers from Jayapura including Kuluru Sringeshwara, Heggadde Manjunathand others have obtained good crop and have become a model to other farmers. The four year-old plants have borne fruits recently. Rudraksha is considered as sacred by Indians and a very few people are aware that Rudraksha is a fruit grown in plants.
There are varieties of Rudraksha with several faces. Rudraksha fruit and plant bark is used in the preparation of Ayurveda medicines and the tree can be grown to provide shade to arecanut, coffee and tea plants.
The Rudraksha tree which bears fruit after four years of plantation. Initially one will get 400 to 600 fruits. As the tree grows, one can get 8,000 fruits. July and August are considered as suitable months to grow Rudraksha.
