The MUDA had organised the meeting at the community hall at Lalithadripura on the outskirts of the city.
The authority intends to develop the layout on a vast area of 139 acres acquiring land from 110 farmers.
However, it enraged the already agitated farmers who are yet to receive compensation for the land acquired eight years ago for the formation of Lalithadripura layout first stage.
They chided the authorities concerned for singing the same old tune — only to cheat them later.
Owing to difference of opinion between the authorities and ryots, the issue of compensation had reached court.
Although the lower court and also High Court ruled in favour of farmers, MUDA was not ready to accept it, but has moved the Supreme Court.
“We farmers are already in distress. So , we cannot bear the expenditure of fighting the case in Supreme Court”, said farmers unilaterally, refusing to part with their land for formation of the layout.
Repeated efforts made by MUDA chairman L Nagendra, commissioner Dr C J Betsurmath, members Ramesh Kumar, Vishweshwaraiah and others went in vain with unrelenting farmers.
Farmers instead rushed to the podium showing all signs of violence, but to clam down later. Farmers finally walked out, leaving MUDA in a fix.
