Minister for Revenue Sreenivas Prasad said on Wednesday that the government was mulling over reducing the time limit for providing information under the ‘Sakaala’ guarantee of services scheme to 10 days from the present 21 days.

The minister told reporters in the city that a decision in this regard would be taken soon.
He said the government was serious about the formation of 43 new taluks, as announced by the previous government. The idea of new taluks had not been shelved and the delay in the implementation was because the government was busy implementing the subsidised rice scheme.

He said the new taluks would be formed in phases, based on the availability of funds.
Forming new taluks costs Rs 18 crore each, he said.

The minister admitted there were lapses in providing services at ‘Atalji Janasnehi’ centres and in the ‘Aasare’ scheme. Steps would be taken to set things right, Prasad said.
