According to a press release, sand lifting and transportation of sand without licence is totally prohibited in the district.
Besides, illegal transport of sand to neighbouring states is also punishable. As per the new policy, henceforth, sand extraction, storage and sale will be looked after by Public Works Department.
A taluk-level task force committee has been constituted in this regard. The Department of Mines and Geology, Revenue and PWD had identified sites of sand extraction sites.
