According to police, Ejaz (55) and Sadiq (35) are the victims. The incident occurred while they were lifting sand from the river. The bodies are not found so far.

On information, Mines and Geology Department Officer Harish, Tahsildhar Nataraj, Police Inspector Ganesh, Belur Police Inspector Raghu, Arehalli PSI Venkatesh and visited the spot. The relatives of the deceased and contractor have not filed any complaint in this regard.

Licence cancelled

Meanwhile, Harish told Deccan Herald that the permission given by the government to lift sand on five acres in survey number 88 near Mavinahalli , is cancelled. 

However, some persons were allegedly lifting sand in Goranahalli area thus violating the government’s order. The duo met watery grave in the same spot. A detailed report would be sent to district administration recommending ban sand lifting and demanding action against the accused, he added.
