With Mysore city reaching a saturation point with unbridled growth, Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in its budget for the next fiscal (2014-15) is looking beyond the city, envisaging satellite towns and measures to decongest traffic in and around outer-ring road junctions.

The balance sheet for year expects to generate a revenue of Rs 48,670.40 lakh against the expenditure of Rs 48,438.32 lakh saving Rs 232.08 lakh to the exchequer.

Tabling the budget outlay, MUDA Commissioner S Palaiah on Saturday asserted that to prevent the city from ballooning, satellite towns are planned at Ballahalli on H D Kote road and Kochanahalli on T Narsipur road.

Satellite towns being the future of a growing city, the already planned residential area on 485 acres of land at Ballahalli could be utilised for developing a satellite town.

Similarly, Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has issued a primary notification to acquire 500 acres of land at Kochanahalli in Varuna hobli in the taluk.

However, the very area comes under residential zone and a satellite town could be more viable than an industrial area. The issue will be discussed with the Environment department before going ahead.

Under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), grade separators have been planned at four prominent junctions at an estimated cost of Rs 66.62 crore with MUDA’s 10 per cent cost sharing calculated at Rs 600 lakh (Rs six crore).

Easing traffic

It is aimed at addressing the woes on traffic front for the next 20 years, especially on the outer-ring road junctions due to the mushrooming of new layouts. Places identified are, Mysore-Bangalore road outer-ring road junction; Mysore-KRS road ORR junction; Mysore-Hunsur road ORR junction; and Mysore-Nanjangud road near JSS College junction.

Also, railway over-bridges have been identified for further widening at the outer-ring road junctions keeping pace with the upgradation of the roads from existing two lane to six lane. They are-Mysore-Bangalore track; near Bharatheeya Reserve Bank; Mysore- Arsikere; and Mysore- Nanjangud railway lines.
