Kodagu Maaraka Yojane Virodhi Vedike will organise a rally ‘Save Kodagu from four-lane road’, from Gandhi Maidan on December 8, said forum convener Colonel C P Muttanna.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, he said that the people of Kodagu have not recovered from the shock of flash floods and landslides.

In this situation, the government has been planning to implement projects such as Kushalnagar-Madikeri four laning and two railway line projects, he added.

The rally, which is meant to raise a voice against such projects will be flagged-off at Gandhi Maidan on December 8. People of Kodagu should take part in the rally in large numbers to urge the government to drop the projects, said Col Muttanna.

Forum president Rajiv Bopaiah said that the four-laning project and the new railway projects have nothing to do with the development of the district as the people are not going to be benefited.

In fact, there are more risks by implementing the projects. The valuable biodiversity will be lost with the implementation of these works, he said.

Kaveri Sene president Ravi Changappa said legal fights are also being carried out against the projects and a PIL had been filed in the high court last year.
