In light of government schools resuming class after a three-week mid-term vacation, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has reiterated the need for schools to maintain cleanliness and ensure safety while discharging functions related to the midday meal scheme.

A circular issued on Friday asked schools to ensure adequate and proper quality of supplies of groceries, milk powder, vitamin tablets and gas cylinders.

The circular has also urged school authorities to keep their documents regarding food and supplies up to date while asking the Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPIs) to monitor the various functions involved.

“Headmasters need to make sure that no untoward incidents take place due to negligence,” said S Jayakumar, Joint Director, Mid Day Meal, DPI.
