This is the first of the three examinations being held by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB).

As many as 3,35,468 boys, 3,78,389 girls and 5 transgenders from 5,050 PU colleges are appearing for the examinations.

The Board is holding the examinations for the Kannada and Arabic subjects on the first day today.

The examinations will be held from 10 am to 1 pm at 1,171 examination centres. To prevent malpractice, the Board is webstreaming the examinations.

All types of electronic devices, including mobile phones, smart watches and earphones, are prohibited in the examination centers.

The officials and the staffers on examination duty are also barred from using mobile phones inside and on the premises of the examination centres.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and other state-run transport corporations are providing free bus service for the students appearing for examinations.

The students can travel free of cost by showing their ID cards and exam admission tickets on the day of the examination.

Attendance shortage for 6,547 students

As many as 6,547 students have missed the opportunity to write the second PUC examination, scheduled to begin today, due to a shortage of attendance.

Despite repeated warnings and notices, the students failed to maintain the 75% attendance, mandatory for writing any examination in the state.

According to the data, the highest number of students with attendance shortage were from the Arts stream, with 3,362 students missing the exams, followed by 2,078 in the Commerce and 1,107 in the Science stream.

According to the KSEAB officials, the examination admission (hall) ticket has not been generated for these students. However, except for the Science stream students, the other stream students will be allowed to register as private candidates for exams 2 and 3.

“As there will be practicals for science subjects, they have to wait one more year to take the exams. If they are willing to change the stream, then they are also allowed for exams 2 and 3 as private candidates,” a senior official of the Board
said.
