Advocate R Karthikeyan, in his petition argued that as the incidents related to the sex scandal has reportedly taken place in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and with several cases filed against him, all of them may be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“Only if investigated by the apex singular agency, the CBI, could people know the whole truth behind the web of charges against Nithyananda,” the petitioner argued, adverting to the inter-state ramifications in this sensational expose.
The sex scam came to light when a Tamil television channel played the sleaze tapes recently in which Nithyananda was found cozying up with film star Ranjitha, said to be one of Nithyananda’s close disciples.
Though both involved in the scam have counter-charged that the tapes had been “exaggerated and interpolated” to defame the Dhyana Peetam, he had not per se denied his presence on the tapes.
The episode turned more intriguing after a former disciple of Nithyananda, Swami Dharmananda alias Lenin, had earlier this month gave a complaint to the Chennai Police Commissioner, owning up to shooting the videos, to “expose the misdeeds” at the Bidadi ashram.
Significantly, Monday’s petition comes close on the heels of the Tamil Nadu police transferring the main case that included charges of rape against Nithyananda, arising out of Lenin’s complaint, to the Karnataka police. When the petition came up before Justice Raghupathy in the High Court, the Judge ordered issue of notice for the CBI to give its reply and returnable by March 24.
