Shivamogga: The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken serious note of the incident involving pesticide being mixed in the drinking water tank of the Government Lower Primary School at Huvinakone in Hosanagar taluk.
The Commission has registered a suo motu complaint and sought a detailed report from Shivamogga Public Education Department Deputy Director S R Manjunath.
“This is an unforgivable act. A major tragedy was averted only due to the presence of mind of the kitchen staff,” said Commission member Shashidhar Kosambe.
He confirmed that the Commission has written to the DDPI seeking an immediate explanation.
Shivamogga SP G K Mithunkumar visited the school on Saturday and inspected the premises. He interacted with the teachers and staff and confirmed that the empty bottle used to mix the pesticide had been recovered. “We have obtained some leads and the culprits will be arrested soon,” he said.
To expedite the investigation, three police teams comprising 18 personnel have been formed under the leadership of Thirthahalli DySP Aravind Kalagujji.
The teams have been deployed around Huvinakone to gather information and question suspects.
