The incessant rains continued to lash Malnad region in the district on Saturday. The district received 49 mm of rain in the last 24 hours against average rainfall of 22 mm. So, there has been a rise in 122 per cent of rainfall.
Heavy rains lashed Shivamogga, Sagar, Thirthahalli, Konandur, Soraba, Bhadravathi. Yadur and Mastikatte in the Chakra Varahi Project area of Hosanagar taluk also received good spell of rains.
In Thirthahalli town, Ramamantapa is on the verge of submersion due to copious rains that have been lashing the region for the past three days. Agumbe recorded 16.4 cm rainfalls, 14 cm in Megaravalli. The Tunga River in Shivamogga city is flowing at a danger level.
As a precautionary measure, a holiday was declared for schools and colleges on Saturday.
Bhadra dam to reach brim
As many as 16,857 thousand cusecs of water was released into the river from the Bhadra reservoir on Friday evening through the crust gates.
Water level in the dam was at 180.06 feet against the maximum level of 186 feet. The inflow of water into the dam is 21,568 cusecs, and a total of 21,568 cusecs of water was being released, including 2,000 cusecs to the right bank canal.
