Siddaganga Mutt seer Dr Shivakumara Swamiji was admitted to BGS Global Hospital, Kengeri in Bengaluru on Friday. The doctors treating him said that the 109-year-old pontiff was suffering from jaundice.
Admitted around 3 pm, the swamji is currently on antibiotics and supportive medicines. A group of doctors treating him attributed jaundice to obstruction in bile flow.
“The bile from liver has to flow to intestine. In swamji’s case, there is blockage just above the intestine. We will try to relive the blockage endoscopically. We are yet to determine the cause of the obstruction. There are acute changes in the functioning of lungs. However, the major concern is jaundice,” said Consultant Gastroenterologist, Dr Adarsh C K who is part of doctors’ team attending on the swamiji.
The doctors said that it was too early to say on how swamiji was responding to the treatment. The seer underwent a series of tests.
At his Mutt in Tumakuru, the seer is said to have refused to come to the hospital. However, devotees managed to convince him. The swamiji walked himself to the car without anyone’s assistance.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who met the seer at the hospital said that he (swamiji) was doing fine. Former prime minister Deve Gowda called the doctor over phone from Belagavi and enquired about the seer’s health.
