The lakes yet to be surveyed comprise about 26 per cent of the estimated 40,998 lakes in Karnataka.

"The revenue department has completed survey work of 30,000 lakes. The remaining ones have to be surveyed, and encroachments will be removed within the next six months," the chief minister said while reviewing the work by the Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority on Wednesday.

Siddaramaiah also directed the officials to rejuvenate lakes through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
