Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said that Mysore city would be declared ‘Heritage City,’ if Congress won a majority.
He was speaking after releasing Congress’s manifesto, at his residence here, on Monday. The Varuna constituency candidate said that the blue print for the purpose was ready when he was deputy chief minister itself. The plan was even taken up by S M Krishna when he was chief minister, but unfortunately it had not materialised.
The BJP government had sidelined the project, however, it would be revived with Congress getting elected to power this time. He said, “we have made assurances which can be fulfilled and not those which would be drained away after the elections,” he added.
Regarding Mysore, he said, the district had its own specialities and thus utmost care would be taken to ensure for its development. Mysore would be made the international level tourism centre by conserving its beauty and culture.
He blamed district in charge minister S A Ramdas of not conducting any Karnataka Development Programme meetings. He alleged that the State government had not utilised funds efficiently for development of the district.
On Mysore’s traffic problems, he said, measures would be taken to connect districts with four lane roads and taluks with two lane roads.
Elaborating on his 15-day campaign tour in State, he said, Congress has received good support. He said, people were fed up with governance of BJP and were looking ahead for a stable and able government. “Only Congress can give stable government,” he added.
Siddaramaiah said, BJP had been divided into two groups due to internal fights, while JD(S) was confined to only five districts. “BJP and KJP which are strong rivals who have been involved in allegations against each other,” he added.
He expressed confidence over winning at least 15 seats in Bangalore.
Commenting on Narendra Modi’s taunt against Congress that it has failed to provide security to women in Delhi, he said, “He has no moral rights to speak against our government, as he failed to provide security during the riots in his State,” he added.
Siddaramaiah said, Dalits of Varuna constituency were supporting him. “Ka Pu Siddalinga Swamy is spreading false stories against me, as he is in fear of his defeat. There were such rumours during last elections also,” he said.
