Six people were killed on the spot when the Hyundai i10 car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Hyundai i20 car on Mundargi Road (NH-63) on the outskirts of the city in the wee hours of Sunday.

The victims are Siddalingesh Korishettar, 30, Manojkumar Karadigudda, 28, Anand Betageri, 28, Arunkumar Betageri, 28, Channu Badada, 28, and Amrut Laturkar, 26.

The accident occurred when the victims were on their way from Gadag to Adavisomapura for a friend’s wedding. The i20 car, which was on its way from Lakkundi to Gadag, hit the road divider and collided with the i10 car.

The seriously injured, who were travelling in the i20 car, have been admitted to the Kims Hospital in Hubballi, while the other injured were treated at a private hospital in Gadag. Though the airbags in the car opened up, the victims suffered severe head injuries, which caused their death.

The Gadag rural police have registered a case and are investigating. The Bannikatti curve, where the collision occurred, has come to be known as an accident zone in recent times.
